Plant-based Feasting in Arnhem: Discover Restaurant FALLA

Vegan eten in Arnhem

First impression of FALLA in Arnhem

On a Wednesday evening, we arrive at FALLA restaurant in Arnhem, located on the Markt. Luckily, we had made a reservation, as the place is almost completely full. What’s immediately striking is that there’s a truly diverse crowd here – young, old, couples, friends, and families. A sign that this plant-based restaurant appeals to a wide audience.

A colorful addition to Arnhem’s hospitality scene

FALLA has been in Arnhem for a year now, making it a great addition to the city’s growing selection of vegan restaurants. Plant-based food here definitely doesn’t mean boring salads and boiled vegetables. On the contrary: the plates at FALLA are colorful, creative, and above all, incredibly flavorful.

A warm welcome and first drinks

We are greeted by owner and manager Patrycja and take a seat by the window. The menu looks tempting, so we decide to let Patrycja choose the dishes. We do choose our own drinks: a non-alcoholic watermelon matcha spritz and a watermelon mojito, which does contain alcohol. Both fresh, festive and a lovely start to the evening.

Surprising appetizers

The buffalo mushroom wings are an absolute must: oyster mushrooms in crispy vodka tempura, drizzled with homemade buffalo sauce, with a kick of sriracha and a fresh hint of mint. No fish, of course, because FALLA is entirely plant-based – this sashimi is made from… watermelon! Surprising and delicious. We decided to swap plates halfway through, so we could enjoy it twice as much. It was a good choice, and it saved us from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

Main Courses Full of Flavor Explosions

For my main course, half a fried cauliflower appears, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It lies on a colorful bed of mango hummus, topped with oriental tomato sauce, green herb sauce, caramelized peanuts, pomegranate seeds, and fresh herbs. To be honest, I had just vowed never to buy a cauliflower again, so I thought it was rather amusing that I was presented with one. But this dish proves that plant-based cooking, even with cauliflower, is anything but boring.

Meanwhile, my companion enjoys soft bao buns filled with roasted oyster mushrooms in a slightly spicy gochujang glaze and creamy guacamole. They are garnished with sweetly caramelized onions, crisp pickled cucumber ribbons, chives, bean sprouts, sesame seeds, and a duo of matcha mayo and chili. Naturally, we share these as well. As a flexitarian, all I can say is: if someone cooked for me like that every day, I would eat vegan without any problem.

Sweet Ending

Although we were already quite full, we happily saved room for dessert. We tried a pistachio cheesecake and the Spanish Jewel: a brioche bun with cream and frozen yogurt. A perfect end to the evening, although we had to skip the last bite.

Conclusion: A Great Addition to Arnhem

FALLA in Arnhem is an absolute must-see – not only for vegans, but also for anyone who wants to be surprised by colorful, creative, and flavorful dishes. Curious about plant-based food? Then this is the place to discover that you don’t have to miss out on anything.

We will definitely be back for the green velvet gnocchi or the vegan quarter pounder with cheese.

These dishes have made me curious too!

Thank you FALLA for your hospitality, the delicious dishes, and the pleasant evening!
