Authentic Neapolitan Pizza at Pizza Beppe in Arnhem
A delightful Italian evening on Jansplaats
A new pizzeria in the heart of Arnhem
It’s buzzing in the city as we arrive at Pizza Beppe, located on the lively Jansplaats in Arnhem. I must admit, I hadn’t heard of Pizza Beppe before, but the chain is already established in 11 cities across the Netherlands – so yes, it’s part of a franchise.
In Arnhem, the restaurant is run by the lovely duo Nancy and Jelle, who not only own the place but also take on the role of host and hostess themselves.
We take a seat on the cozy outdoor terrace. On this warm evening, most tables are taken. Indoors it’s also pleasantly busy thanks to the air conditioning. The interior feels modern, artistic and welcoming, with colorful art on the walls and an open kitchen where you can watch the pizzaioli at work.
Jelle explains that the restaurant is styled in Neapolitan fashion: “We present smart casual dining – starters, pizzas and desserts, traditionally and authentically prepared. Our interior reflects the spirit of Naples – tightly packed tables, a bit noisy maybe, but very gezellig and perfect for enjoying a pizza with a matching drink.”
Mouthwatering Italian starters
Since we’re often invited to try restaurants in exchange for a blog, we always ask if the chef wants to surprise us or if we may choose ourselves. Jelle suggests starting with a selection of appetizers – and who are we to say no?
Soon, our table is covered with a variety of Italian delights: focaccia deluxe, Parma ham, pecorino and creamy burrata. We could’ve sworn we were in Italy – that’s how good it was!
A menu focused solely on pizza
Once our plates are cleared, it’s time for the main dish. At Pizza Beppe, the spotlight is fully on Neapolitan pizza. The menu features only pizzas (including two vegan options) and one salad – no pasta. That’s a conscious choice, Jelle tells us.
You might think: “Another pizza place?” – they seem to be popping up everywhere. But Pizza Beppe is different. These are authentic Neapolitan pizzas, made with ingredients directly imported from Italy.
The pizzaioli working in the open kitchen – as well as Nancy and Jelle – even travelled to Naples to master the craft. And honestly, you can taste the difference.
Our choice: Salame Picante & Tuna Melt
We went for two different pizzas: the Salame Picante and the Tuna Melt. We split them both and swapped halves, so we could taste a bit of each.
The pizzas were larger than expected, and after all those tasty starters, we were already quite full. The pizza crusts were left on the plate – which was a shame, because they were wonderfully crispy and airy, just like real Neapolitan crusts should be.
Tiramisu – the perfect ending
“Room for dessert?” Jelle asks with a smile. We hesitate for a moment, but when he mentions the tiramisu is a must, we’re sold.
And wow – he wasn’t wrong. The tiramisu looked amazing and tasted even better. The creamy texture, and the balance between coffee, Amaretto and mascarpone – simply delicious.
Full belly, but still tempted…
After dessert, Jelle offers us an espresso, cappuccino, or limoncello – a traditional Italian ending. Sadly, we were just too full. Now I regret not trying the limoncello… A perfect excuse to come back soon!
I’m also curious about some of the other pizzas on the menu, like the Sweet Bepperoni, the Vegan Margherita, and the highly recommended Honey Tartufo.
Which pizza would you choose?
Thank you, Nancy and Jelle!
We had a wonderful meal at Pizza Beppe – a true gem on Jansplaats and a great addition to Arnhem’s food scene. With so many fast food spots nearby, it’s refreshing to enjoy a traditionally made, artisanal Neapolitan pizza instead.
