The "7 straatjes" in Arnhem.

Arnhem’s Zeven Straatjes : A trinket and interior lover’s paradise

Where Amsterdam has the ‘Negen Straatjes, Nine Little Streets’ (a fashion and vintage heaven forfashionistas), Arnhem has its own version, ‘the Zeven Straatjes, Seven Little Streets,’ where trinketand interior lovers can shop to their heart’s content. The Arke Noachstraat, Bentinckstraat, Eiland,Kerkstraat, Pastoorstraat, Wielakkerstraat and the Zwanenstraat offer a different shoppingexperience to the high street stores on and around the Ketelstraat, Bakkerstraat and Koningstraat.Whether you want to browse vintage pieces or enter foodie heaven, the shops and eateries on thesetucked-away streets have it all. You could easily spend an entire afternoon strolling along the narrowstreets while exploring the quaint shops and cafés.This was unimaginable centuries ago. The seven little streets are part of the so-called Alleys Quarter (Stegen-Kwartier). Once this neighborhood wasdistinguished by an abundance of crime and prostitution. Today a charming mixture of conceptstores, gift shops, and places to eat and drink dominate this part of Arnhem.

How to get there

Even though this shopping area is located right in the heart of the historic centre of Arnhem (behindthe Primark), it is still relatively unknown to the main public. Therefore this area is less crowdedwhich makes it ideal for a short escape from the busy high streets of Arnhem. Part of the reason whythis area gets easily overlooked is that it isn’t clear where to enter it. To make the area morerecognizable, two arches span the entrances to the Zwanenstraat and Wielakkerstraat. These two arches can’t be missed when you are walking down the Ketelstraat. The pretty stores and charming cafes on the ‘7 straatjes’ will definitely inspire you and inevitablycapture your heart. Chances are that you will return home with things you didn’t even know youneeded. So you have been warned!

Happy shopping!
