Shopping in Klarendal Arnhem

Klarendal is less well known as a shopping location than city centre of Arnhem. It’s an up and coming neighberhood in Arnhem filled with small shops and hidden gems!
How cool would it be wearing a limited edition affordable fashion item instead of wearing something everybody else has? And how cool would it be giving a present that makes the receiver really happy and wondering where you got it from?
Well, for those things you need to go to Klarendal. 😀

Fun fact: The disign on the Hommelse poort was made by Hanneke van der Poll in 2011.

Zuijders Delicatessen

At Zuijders delicatessen you can get Mediterranean specialties and small dishes to take away. The bon-vivants Marcel and Rian can also provide caterings for up to 50 people. But if you are not looking for a caterer at the moment, but still want to eat the food you can dine in on Friday evening. Then you will taste great dishes from Italy, Spain, France, whatever they have made that day!

De BAKBAR

If you like baking and/or eating sweets, De Bakbar is the shop for you! At the Bakbar shop you can find all you need. From cake tins to books. You can also get great baking advice or ‘Do It Yourself’ packages. Having a birthday soon or throwing a party? The Bakbar offers workshops as well!
It’s nice to hop in, smell the cakes in the oven, look around and of course eat some leftovers they give customers to try.

Mippies Interior en Styling

At Mippies you can find design from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, art and antique. Owner Mip van de Pol is raised by parents who were both working in the art- and antique branch, so she followed their path with a lot of passion and creativity. Mip can also give you personal styling advice when you need it.

Het Paradijs Illustrations

Els, Esther and Maaike say they want to give some more flair to the daily life. At Het Paradijs Illustrations you can find out how they do that. They make drawings for magazines and newspapers, but they also worked together with Okimono or Slaatje Blafor example and you can also order your personalized postcard! In the shop or at the web shop you can buy postcards, socks, bags and more. I think I will buy an Arnhem postcard for my foreign friends!

Plotz

Close to Sugar Hill, you will find Plotz. At Plotz you can buy T-shirts, but not just regular ones. Shirts made of biological cotton or other ecological material, they all have a limited print. Each print will only be used 50 times, which means only 50 other people can have the same shirt as you!
Karin van Rijckevorsel, the designer of the T-shirts, made shipping very easy. You can order the shirts online too.

Take A Klarendal Tour!

You can make a whole trip through Klarendal. All the shops I listed are in order, so you could just start with a coffee at Koffiekafeetje or Tape at the Hommelsestraat. Take a right after the Hommelse gate and turn left before Goed Proevenrestaurant. Get a take away wrap or sandwich for on the road at salad bar Slaatje Bla (check my blog about Slaatje Bla owners other restaurant T’ Amusement).
You can also get some lunch at de Wereldkeuken De Wereldkeuken gives people the opportunity to reintegrate. Make sure you stop by the shop of local designer Mirte Engelhard.
Leave some space for a desert at Sweet Sugar Hill at the end of the Klarendalseweg.
When you get back you can have another drink at Caspar, next to Goed Proeven. They have a nice terrace so in the summer you can relax, soak up the sun and be content with the cool items you have just bought in Klarendal.

Note: be aware that many of the shops are closed on Monday till Wednesday, so check the shops hours before planning your trip to Karendal.

Fashion Night in June

Every year, at the beginning of June, you can visit the shops in Klarendal at night. At the Fashion Night all the shops are open till midnight and some of them have big discounts as well! There is also music and food, fashion shows, art and lots of people gathering together.
