During this Battle of Arnhem city walk of approximately 2.5 hours (5 km), you will learn a great deal about the fighting in and around Arnhem city centre during World War II. Using authentic photographs taken during the battles of September 1944 and eyewitness accounts, the guide brings the story of the Battle of Arnhem vividly to life.

Operation Market Garden (17–25 September 1944) was a failed Allied military operation, planned and largely led by the British. The fighting took place in the Netherlands and Germany during the Second World War. The success of the operation depended on the capture of a series of nine bridges, the final one being the bridge over the River Rhine in the city of Arnhem.
While airborne and ground forces succeeded in liberating the Dutch cities of Eindhoven and Nijmegen, they were unable to hold their furthest positions in and around Arnhem, including the crucial bridge over the Rhine.

I took the 2.5 hour Battle of Arnhem walking tour with David van Buggenum. As a military history enthusiast, the Battle of Arnhem was my primary reason for visiting. David did an absolutely fantastic job. His depth of expertise on the battle, the context surrounding it, and the anecdotes from those who fought in it made it a truly memorable experience. He has literally written books on the subject and you can see his passion and knowledge coming through, whether it’s discussing small unit tactics or the personalities involved in the battle. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking to learn more about battle.

Vrijdag 27-06-25 hebben wij met 7 collega's (Ex-militairen en dienende militairen van de Nederlandse en Belgische Marine) een fantastische Battlefield Tour over de Slag om Arnhem gedaan. Hij vertelde elk detail met zoveel passie en enthousiasme, dat het voelde alsof we zelf even terug in de tijd stapten. We hebben ontzettend genoten van deze indrukwekkende tour en daarnaast veel nieuwe kennis opgedaan over een belangrijk stuk geschiedenis, dat nu nog meer tot leven is gekomen.
