The story of the Arnhem girls begins in 1829 when baker Hagdorn baked the very first Arnhem girl around the birthday of his daughter (a real Arnhem girl). Looking for something that would do well at parties and functions, he baked a cookie from finely risen yeast dough. The cookie has a recognizable round shape and is often packaged in blue and white boxes with images of an Arnhem girl in traditional costume. You can buy the real Arnhem Girl cookie at Bakker Hilvers in the center of Arnhem at Broerenstraat 23.
