Winter Is Coming To Arnhem

On Friday, December 9th at 18:30h “Winter Arnhem” is officially opened. “Winter Arnhem” brings the greenery of the Veluwe to the heart of the city. The opening takes place on the Jansplaats, in one of the five green oases where the ice skating ring is located. The center is decorated with green from the Veluwe.

During winter Arnhem has organised cool events during the weekends.
We have selected the best five:*pictures and tips are provided by Team FNKE*

1. Ice Skating Ring

From December 9th till January 15th you can go for a spin at the ice skate ring. You can go ice skating in a green oasis with an ice ring of 250m2 which takes place continuously during the “Winter Arnhem” month. The kiosk next to the ice skating ring is also the information point for the whole program of “Winter Arnhem”.

2. Popup Church

At the spot where the little Eusebius once stood, you will find the Arnhem Popup Church. This inflatable church at the Coehoorn Park is a meeting place for artists, musicians and anyone who want to make a visit. The Popup Church is available for anyone who wants to organize something in the period of December 9th till January 15th.

3. Woodcarving

What is a forest without animals? Roaring chainsaws will therefore cut animals from the Veluwe outof wood on December 10th. Between 11:00-17:00 there will be live demonstrations by four professional woodcarvers at the railway station in Arnhem.

4. Seven Warm Winter Wishes

There is a special shopping night in the “7straatjes” on Saturday December 10th. The streets are gorgeously lit and music is played which makes for the ultimate Christmas atmosphere. For the kids there are bonfires where they can, under supervision, rost marshmallows and chestnuts. During the afternoon and evening you can hang a wish for another person in the wishing tree. Every hour an entrepreneurs makes a wish come.

5. Music at the Neighbours

On Sunday December 11th there is something special going on in Arnhem (and Deventer, Ede, Hengelo, Meppel, Nijmegen, Wageningen and Zwolle). In several districts in Arnhem people open their living rooms (109 living rooms that is!) and musicians from Arnhem will surprise you with an awesome live performance!

Check this “Muziek bij de Buren” website and find out when and where you can visit a living room in Arnhem. This event is for free but the organisation will appreciate it when you put a few euro’s in the donation jar.
