Impressions of new Arnhem Centraal.
So this week, after almost 20 years of planning and building, Arnhem Centraal railway station was opened! A ton of events were panned (read more about this here) and it was truly a happy occasion! Below you can find some impression of Arnhem Centraal. I hope you like them :).
Ben van Berkel.
Designed by Ben van Berkel (UNstudio), this futuristic looking station is all about curves, light, and connecting people. He is also responsible for the Mercedes-Benz Museum (2001-2006), Stuttgart, Germany, Netherlands, the Het Valkhof Museum (1995-1998), Nijmegen, Netherlands and the Erasmus Bridge (1991-1996), Rotterdam. The Erasmus Bridge has a beautiful nickname: “The Swan”. Arnhem Centraal also has a nickname, people in Arnhem call it the “money pit”. This is due to extreme overspending. The budget was set on 65 million euro, but in 2008 already 90 million euro was spent. I am curious that the total cost was, I could not even find this online. (Let me know if you did).
Have you also shot some nice impression of Arnhem Centraal? You can share them on our Facebook page. Since I am working on getting exposure, feel free to follow us on Facebook and invite/share the site with your (fb) friends! Thanx a bunch in advance.
